Electrolysis is the practice of electrical epilation to permanently remove hair and has been used for over 135 years. The actual process of removing the hair consists of the practitioner inserting a solid hair-thin metal probe into each hair follicle.
Proper insertion does not puncture the skin. Small amounts of electricity is delivered to the follicle through the probe, which causes localized damage to the areas that generate hairs, either through the formation of caustic lye (galvanic method), heat (thermolysis method) or both (blend method).
All services are provided by licensed certified medical electrologists and we offer individual sterilized disposable probes. At this time, it is the only permanent option for removal of very fine and non-pigmented hair. The FDA currently allows the term “permanent hair removal” for electrolysis only. Unlike laser epilation, electrolysis can be used to remove 100% of the hair from an area and is effective on hair of all colors.
Laser fees are quoted upon initial consultation. All prices are based on area treated and are quoted per treatment.
The primary principle behind laser hair removal is selective photothermolysis, the matching of a specific wavelength of light and pulse duration to obtain optimal effect on a targeted tissue with minimal effect on surrounding tissue. Lasers can cause localized damage to the hair follicle by selectively heating the target, melanin, in the germinative area that causes the follicle to grow, while not heating or damaging the rest of the skin. Lasers allow us to treat multiple hairs in a single treatment with much more speed and intensity.
